Partitions Table Installation Benefits
The biggest advantage with manually made partitions is when you re-install or installing some other Linux OS on your computer. You can keep the current partitions and all the files in your home folder. There is always good to save backups of important files.
During the installation process when you come to the point where you select where you want to install Linux Mint? Select Manual.
The application opens where you can see all the partitions on your computer, what file system was previously used and the size of the partition, all partitions are exempted in this stage.
If you also have a Windows system installed, then you can see as well the Windows partition.
Select the first partition, it will activate the partition, click Change.
Edit the partition, keep the size unchanged, Use as Ext4 journaling file system (the same as before), select Format the partition, and Mount point to root (/) click OK.
Select the next partition and click Changes.
Edit the partition, keep the size unchanged, Use as swap area, click OK.
Select the last partition and click Changes.
Edit the partition, keep the size unchanged, Use as Ext4 journaling file system (the same as before), Do not select Format the partition if you want to keep the old files in your Home folders, and Mount point to Home (/home) click OK.
The partition table is ready, click Install.
If you have the Windows partition remember to change the file system to the same as before (usually ntfs) and the Mount point to Windows (/windows). Do not select Format the partition.
